I don’t normally do just a book haul post, but I didn’t want to mix this up with yesterday’s review (I like to review books publishers have sent me without distracting details) and I do like to keep up to date! I kind of fell into The Works on the way back home from volunteering at parkrun on Saturday and this happened. First of all, yes, I know this is not a book. I am a bit obsessed with jigsaw puzzles and, indeed, fear I have nowhere to store this one. I wanted to buy this when I was unwell last month; a 500 piece puzzle doesn’t normally last me long enough. Given that it’s of Cadenabbia on Lake Como in northern Italy and given that I have “Madame Solario” on my 20BooksofSummer list, which is set there, I thought I’d better do the decent thing and buy the puzzle to do when I’m reading the book! There’s a plan!
And so to the books. And look – our new duvet set – hooray! Anyway, I’m off to Cornwall for a weekend with the Project 365 photography group I belong to, in about a month – it’s a long train journey and I thought it would be a lovely idea to take some books set in Cornwall, read them on the train down then share them at the party (people with a good memory will recall that I bought “Breakfast Under a Cornish Sun” a few days ago). Those two have joined the Pile, so aren’t really on the TBR (so don’t count …?).
Then we have “Deep South” by Paul Theroux – he’s someone whose travel books I will always read, and I hadn’t realised he’d done one about the southern states of America, so that’s perfect. And William Sitwell’s “Eggs and Anarchy” is about the people responsible for food rationing and communicating about it in Word War II, which also fits my collection policy well, so is totally OK. I think Sitwell is the grandson of Sacheverell Sitwell, brother of Osbert and Edith, too!
I need to stop now, though, don’t I. I am not photographing the current state of my TBR for (wo)man nor beast …

You’re definitely outdoing me on the incomings at the moment! Would *love* to see a picture of the current TBR! 🙂

Lovely acquisitions- I love the idea of doing a jigsaw of a place you’re reading about. Madame Solario is a brilliant novel.

Yes, I thought you might like that. Another book might have fallen through the letterbox today – however can that have happened?? I think that’s it now, though.

I so wanted to like that Theroux book, but his writing and I do not get along. I love the American south though and was excited to find this had recently dropped in price and is now atop Mt. TBR: https://www.amazon.com/Dispatches-Pluto-Found-Mississippi-Delta-ebook/dp/B00UDCNM82
My spoiler free comment from my review of Theroux;s:
“He’s traveled-did you know that? He’s been to India and Africa. And he writes books. And if you didn’t know that you’ll find out-repeatedly-by about the second chapter. I think that’s honestly my biggest issue with his writing-it’s too much about him and not about what he’s seeing. That’s a real shame with this title because pieces of the south do peek through and it left me wanting more.”

Ah, I love his travel writing, he’s such a grumpy old man – but I cannot BEAR his novels, for some reason! So should be OK. That other one looks good, though!

I need to read more Theroux, I know they are on my shelf. Love jigsaw puzzles, photo clubs and books. Oh why can’t you live in Tasmania? More info on all of these please. Lol.

I’ve loved him for years, in fact didn’t he do an update of the Iron Rooster one, re-travelling it? That will take a while to get to, but Madame Solario and the jigsaw will be in August.

As I’ve just started Madame Solario, am off to Lake Como in a few days and love jigsaw puzzles, I’ll be hot footing it to the works tomorrow to see if I can snap up that puzzle before they sell out!

Oh, marvellous! Have a lovely time on Como – try to get to Bellagio if you can and also the botanical gardens a walk away from Cadenabbia, which should be lovely this time of year. Hope you can find the puzzle!

I love jigsaw puzzles too, but can never seem to find the time for them nowadays. “Eggs and Anarchy” is a brilliant title!

Well all I can say is I’m glad I’m planning to read the book in August, so I can finish the current jigsaw … and yes, isn’t it a fab title!

I am with you and would not share my many shelves of TBR with anyone, it is overwhelming, almost. My post today shares 7 books I bought at a library book sale. I am inspired to read even more before I buy more. The jigsaw puzzle is a nice addition to your collecting.

Hehe – I did actually share a photo in my current post. And it’s not quite as bad as it has been in the past. I’ll pop and have a look at your post – got to love a library sale!
